Elbow Arthritis and Elbow Pain – Learn More About Latest Research from Louisville Orthopedic Surgeon

Elbow arthritis is painful and uncomfortable since it causes stiffness. Research by Papatheodorou (2013) and colleagues in the Journal of Hand Surgery analyzes current treatment options for elbow arthritis.

This research suggests that in the earlier phases of the condition, elbow arthritis may be managed without surgical intervention.

Surgery for elbow arthritis is contingent on the severity of the condition, the age of the patient, and other considerations including functional demands.

Young, active individuals suffering from elbow arthritis are guided towards arthroplasty or synovectomy.

Total elbow arthroplasty is more often recommended for older patients suffering from advanced elbow arthritis. Improvements in athroscopy have inspired better treatment of this uncomfortable condition. For more on this research, see: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0363502312018515
